Fruit Filled Won Tons
Apple or pear pieces, cut into 1-inch wedges
Pineapple chunks, canned and well-drained, or fresh chunks, cut 1-inch square
Banana chunks, cut 1-inch long
1 package Frieda’s Won Ton Wrappers
Cooking oil for deep-fat frying
Sifted powdered sugar
Vanilla-flavored yogurt or custard sauce
Chopped Frieda’s Crystallized Ginger or Pineapple
Prepare desired fruit. (Do not use fruits such as melons, berries, grapes, or peaches, as these will be too watery for frying). To fill Won Ton Wrappers, place one wrapper with one point facing you. Place one piece of fruit in the center. Fold one point of wrapper over. Fold opposite point over, moistening under point with a drop of water. Press together to seal. Then fold two remaining points over each other, moistening the second point the same way and press to seal. You should have a package that looks like a square envelope.
Heat 3 inches of oil in a 2-quart saucepan to 365°F. Fry a few won tons at a time for about 2 minutes or till golden brown. Remove from hot oil with a slotted spoon and drain on thick paper toweling. Sprinkle with sifted powdered sugar, if desired, or serve with one of the sauces listed above. (Try banana won tons dipped in chocolate sauce and then in chopped Crystallized Ginger. Scrumptious!) Serve won tons warm. You can wrap and freeze any leftover Won Ton Wrappers.
