Turon (Banana and Jackfruit Eggrolls)
Turon–or banana lumpia–is a Filipino street dessert that is essentially jackfruit and banana-filled and fried eggrolls. We bake ours and serve with a caramel/dulce de leche dipping sauce.
2 tablespoons butter, melted
16 pieces of Frieda’s Egg Roll Wrappers
6 (firm, not too ripe) bananas*, peeled and halved lengthwise
1 cup ripe jackfruit pods, torn into strips
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
A pinch of salt
Serving options: Vanilla ice cream on top or a side of caramel sauce or dulce de leche for dipping.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and lightly brush with a little bit of melted butter. Lay egg roll wrappers on a flat surface with pointed end toward you. Just below the center, arrange 1 banana half and strips of jackfruit lengthwise. Sprinkle with about 1 tablespoon of brown sugar with a tiny pinch of salt. Fold the bottom corner over the fruit, press down to seal. Fold in left and right sides over each end, and then roll up completely. Lay the eggroll on the prepared baking sheet. Continue with the remaining wrappers and fruits. Brush all of the eggrolls with melted butter, and sprinkle with remaining brown sugar. Bake for 20-25 minute until gold brown. Serve hot. If desired, top with vanilla ice cream or serve with a side of caramel or dulce de leche for dipping.
