Turquoise Trail Sliders
Recipe courtesy of New Mexico Department of Agriculture
The Turquoise Trail is a 65-mile stretch of road along New Mexico Highway 14 between Tijeras Pueblo and Santa Fe. It is named after the precious stone mined in the area by the early pueblo people.
1 cup chopped, roasted Hatch Chiles
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2 pounds 85% lean ground beef
1 cup blue cheese crumbles
12 slider buns
Optional: Burger toppings like sliced tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and other condiments.
In small bowl, mix together garlic powder, salt, and chopped Hatch Chiles; set aside so flavors mingle, about 5 minutes.
In large mixing bowl, add ground meat, blue cheese crumbles, seasoned chiles, and black pepper. Mix together by hand until well combined.
Shape 12 patties of about 2 to 3 inches round and of equal thickness. Place onto grill or skillet and cook to desired doneness. Place patties onto buns and serve with your favorite toppings.
